Century City Aesthetic Dentistry in Los Angeles Cares For Teeth

Friday, December 23rd, 2011

Century City Aesthetic Dentistry in Los Angeles Cares For Teeth Dentists in Los Angeles are concerned with your oral health and thus care about the condition of your mouth and all of your many teeth. At Century City Aesthetic Dentistry, we recognize that your teeth help you both eat and speak. You use your teeth to tear, scrape, and chew food, as well as to form words with your tongue. Teeth are an important part of your oral health and Century City Aesthetic Dentistry located in Los Angeles wants to help keep your mouth and teeth healthy.

We humans have two sets of teeth in our lifetime. The first set are your ‘primary teeth’, which many folks around Los Angeles often call ‘baby teeth’. Baby teeth typically start to come in at about 6 months old. An average healthy mouth for a Los Angeles resident has a total of 20 primary teeth by about age 5.

Your primary teeth will eventually fall out and new teeth known as ‘permanent teeth’ will grow in. Permanent teeth typically begin to come in around age 6 for most Los Angeles residents, but every person is unique and it could be a little earlier or later. By about age 13 an average healthy mouth should have 28 of the total 32 permanent teeth. The last four permanent teeth may or may not come, but typically come in between the ages of 17 and 21 if they do. Because of the late age that these last teeth come in they are commonly called ‘wisdom teeth’.

Many adults in the city of Los Angeles have their wisdom teeth pulled out because these teeth can be problematic to your dental health, such as crowding a mouth. Other adults in the Los Angeles area may not have these teeth pulled out because they are not causing problems. If you are concerned about the state of your wisdom teeth you can visit our local Los Angeles cosmetic dentistry office and we can help you make a decision.

Caring for all of your teeth whether you are young and have 20 primary teeth or are an adult and have 28 to 32 permanent teeth is important for your overall health. Visiting your Los Angeles dentist regularly, and brushing and flossing daily are great ways to care for your many teeth. Century City Aesthetic Dentistry located in Los Angeles, cares about your oral health.

Preventing Gum Disease at Century City Aesthetic Dentistry

    Thursday, November 18th, 2010

Preventing Gum Disease at Century City Aesthetic Dentistry Run your tongue along the gumline behind your lower front teeth. Do you feel a ridge? This is probably tartar or dental calculus.

Even if you brush and floss regularly, plaque and tartar can gradually accumulate. If not removed, these bacteria-breeding substances cause the gums to become irritated and swollen. Eventually, the gums become detached from the tooth, creating a ‘pocket’. This creates a new space for plaque and tartar to grow. In advanced stages of periodontal disease, the toxins created by the bacteria literally rot the gum, teeth and bone.

At Century City Aesthetic Dentistry in Los Angeles, we perform the most thorough dental cleanings possible. Gum disease can be reversed in its early stages by your Los Angeles cosmetic dentist.

Our goal is to help our Los Angeles dental patients prevent gum disease before any damage occurs. Cleanings include root planing and periodontal scaling. Scaling removes the plaque and calculus above and, especially, below the gumline where your toothbrush cannot reach. Planing smoothes root surfaces so it is more difficult for plaque and tartar to accumulate and grow. It also creates a healthy surface for the gums to reattach to the root if necessary.

To schedule a deep cleaning to improve your dental health, call (877) 331-9291. We are located at 2080 Century Park East, Suite 1601 in Los Angeles. In addition to providing comprehensive dental cleanings, we create mega-watt smiles for cosmetic dentistry clients in the Hollywood and Century City area. See http://www.billdorfmandds.com/ for more information about our state-of-the-art dental practice.

    Dental Check Up

    Wednesday, August 4th, 2010

When is the last time you had a dental checkup? Most people in the Los Angeles and Beverly Hills area between the ages of 20 and 90 need a dental checkup every six months. If you live in Los Angeles or Beverly Hills and are at higher risk for oral diseases, you should have your teeth checked every four months, or at least three times a year. Dental health is the foundation for a beautiful smile that will last.

Come into our office, located at 2080 Century Park East, Suite 1601 in Los Angeles, or give us a call to make a dental appointment. You can visit our website at http://www.billdorfmandds.com/ for more information.

Most people in our Los Angeles and Beverly Hills community are in a medium to low risk category. However if you use tobacco or alcohol, eat a lot of sugar in your diet (including lots of soda), or have poor dental hygiene habits, you are likely in a higher risk category and should have your teeth checked right away.

I look at a lot of factors to determine your personal dental hygiene, and your dental outlook for your future. I want you to have the healthiest smile possible so that you can enjoy your teeth for many years without significant problems. If you live in the Los Angeles or Beverly Hills area and are ready to have your teeth checked, please give Century City Aesthetic Dentistry a call.

Our professional and aware staff will be ready to get you started with a dental checkup.

    Talk to you soon.

Keeping Bones Strong in Los Angeles

    Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

Century City Aesthetic Dentistry There is a tooth connection that links osteoporosis and oral health. If you are a woman, you have probably heard about the high rate of osteoporosis in America, including Los Angeles. The state of California is no exception. Osteoporosis can often progress without any outward symptoms. However, there may be clues in a person’s mouth that indicate compromised bones in the rest of the body.

The following dental and periodontal issues could indicate the presence of osteoporosis:

    • Gum detachment
    • Ill-fitting dentures
    • Jaw bone recession and erosion
    • Difficulty with ordinary mouth function such as eating or speaking

The experienced dentists at Century City Aesthetic Dentistry are trained in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of the dental health problems sometimes associated with osteoporosis. Schedule a consultation in Los Angeles by calling (877) 331-9291 and we can discuss your dental concerns. While you are here, we can also tell you about the cosmetic dental services we provide. Cosmetic dentistry continues to improve smiles for our friends and neighbors in the Beverly Hills, Hollywood, Century City, and Los Angeles area.

If you suspect you may be suffering from osteoporosis, please see your physician right away. While your dentist can help identify some of the symptoms associated with osteoporosis, you should not rely on your dentist to provide a diagnosis of osteoporosis.
